Title: ‘Teds Notebook VR’
As the final preparations were being made for the 2016 Formula One season and all the teams gathered to make their final tweaks to the cars in Barcelona, Sky Sports wanted to capture the excitement of the year ahead with an access-all-areas tour in VR for delivery to their Facebook 360 channels.
Project concept / creative solution
Access is always key with VR, and there’s none better at getting into the thick of it than veteran broadcaster Ted Kravitz, the British Formula One pit-lane reporter for Sky Sports F1. We follow Ted as he introduces the 2016 season F1 with a VR view of this high octane sport.
This 3 minute documentary shows exactly what a journalist can achieve with the right VR team behind them. Ted treats the audience to an incredible tour into the inner workings of the F1 seasons, interviews with drivers, insights to the mechanics and full access to the pit lane resulting in a full throttle documentary which received 1.6 million hits in 24 hours. The Surround Vision team were granted unprecedented access as the Sky Sports team allowed the team to use a variety of cutting edge techniques to get the camera as close to the action as possible. The comments on the Facebook pages speak for themselves and Ted, who took to VR like a duck to water, was brilliant as our dynamic host.
