Title: The Nutcracker in 360º
As part of the redevelopment programme at the Royal Opera House, the in-house digital teams wanted to develop VR content and documentary film which could be used both as an educational attraction online and as a visitor attraction projection in the main foyer of the new building.
Project concept / creative solution
The brief was to create an inspiring piece of content to encourage future talent to apply for The Royal Ballet. Surround Vision’s James Hedley scripted a coming of age story which allowed the team to follow one new dancer Julia Roscoe, 20, as she prepares to make her debut in The Nutcracker as a snowflake at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The film would capture behind the scenes of the world famous ballet as well as define an intimate personal story of the young dancer living her dreams.
Surround Vision’s production team worked closely with lead dancer Bennet Gartside to choreograph the incredible ballet shots during the live performances and followed the rehearsal process as the entire cast and backstage teams came together to produce the stunning ballet.
